The long awaited opening of the 2009 Indy Racing League season is finally upon us. The season begins this Sunday at 2pm eastern on Versus from the Streets of St. Petersburg. The much anticipated switch to Versus will finally happen for this race. Many fans of the Indy Racing League, including myself, had become frustrated with the coverage provided by ESPN. ESPN often started coverage of the race late, waiting for a previous event to end, and they always cut their coverage at the schedule time, never allowing enough time for post race coverage.
There are many story lines to look forward to this weekend. Will Graham Rahal repeat his win from St. Petersburg last year or will he enter into a sophomore slump? There were also many team changes this offseason to look forward to, especially the return of previous champion Dario Franchitti. With Danica entering her contract year, will she be able to crank it up a notch and improve on last season? This all builds for an exciting season and an exciting race, and after Sunday the long offseason will finally be behind us.
